Paulo Futre believes that Antoine Griezmann moved to Barca to win trophies.
However, he won’t be the team’s key player if Leo Messi is at the club, the Portuguese notes.
Even if Barca win the Champions League, people will speak about Messi and not Griezmann.
“I understand the reasons behind Griezmann’s move [from Atletico to Barca]. He wanted to try and win the Champions League. I think he left to win more trophies. He probably thought it was more likely to do at Barca,” former Atletico Madrid star Paulo Futre has suggested.
“But we all know that the most important thing at Barca is Messi, Messi, Messi… 50 times Messi. Then Suarez, Pique and Griezmann. He is the fourth or fifth most important player at the club. If Barca win the Champions League, all newspaper covers will be dedicated to Messi.
“If Griezmann had not left Atletico, he would have become a legend. He would be greater than me. But I knew this would happen and that he would have trouble while adapting to Barca.
“Griezmann was a god at Atletico. At Barca, he can only be a count or a prince,” the Portuguese concluded.
A few days ago, Antoine Griezmann’s uncle claimed that his nephew struggles at Barca only because Leo Messi is not hardworking enough.
The Frenchman was a key player for Diego Simeone’s side, winning 3 major trophies and scoring 133 goals for Atletico in his 5 years at the club.
