Neville believes Solskjaer will build his defence around Maguire.
However, there are question marks over Bailly’s fitness level.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Gary Neville said: “Harry Maguire is the one Manchester United are going to build the defence around.
“So, what you’ve got to do is find a partner for him, that’s got to be somebody of the physicality and profile of Eric Bailly, actually.
“Quick, good in the air, strong, can cover Maguire one-on-one but also can get them up the pitch and allow them to play a little higher.”
While there’s no denying Bailly’s quality, the Ivorian’s Old Trafford career continues to be marred by injuries. The 26-year-old has featured in just 11 games so far this season, clocking in at just 862 minutes of action.
There are reportedly 4 names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defensive shortlist although Victor Lindelof is expected to stay in Manchester for at least another season.
