World football governing body, FIFA, has announced that it would live stream the Enyimba versus Wydad Casablanca African Football League quarterfinal in Uyo and other games of the competition to fans of the beautiful game.
The African Football League (AFL) is a brand-new competition born from a partnership between the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA.
The inaugural edition of the tournament will bring together eight of the continent’s most famous and successful teams, from all three African regional blocs.
The first legs will hold on October 20, 21 and 22, with the return clashes billed for October 24 and 25.
The competition will kick off with a game between Tanzania’s Simba SC and Egypt’s Al Ahly SC at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.
On Saturday, TP Mazembe of Congo DR will host Esperance Sportive de Tunis, while Angola’s Petroleos de Luanda and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa will clash at Estadio 11 de Novembro, Launda.
Enyimba’s game against Wydad AC will hold at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday as CAF did not see the Aba Stadium fit for a game of such calibre.
The second legs of the quarterfinals will hold on October 24 with Al Ahly hosting Simba SC at the Cairo International Stadium, while South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns will entertain Petroleos de Luanda at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
On October 25, Esperance Sportive de Tunis will host the second leg of their clash with TP Mazembe at the Hammadi Agrebi Stadium, while Wydad AC and Enyimba will battle for a semifinal ticket at the Stade Mohammed V, Morocco.
According to CAF, this inaugural edition is a precursor to the full-fledged African Football League, which will bring together the 24 top-ranked African football clubs beginning in the 2024/25 season.
