A similar thing happened with Braithwaite and Dest vs Dynamo Kyiv, but the American scored and no one seemed to care then.
Here’s a little moment of confusion between Antoine Griezmann and Leo Messi that happened during the Cadiz match.
Ousmane Dembele crosses the ball and Messi tries to control it.
Leo’s touch was a bit off so the ball bounces to a Cadiz defender, but the Argentine tries to get it back
Griezmann eventually gets the ball and charges for a shot
Leo gets back on the ball and takes a shot
Unfortunately, the ball goes straight into the goalkeeper’s hands
The fans on Twitter were divided when commenting on this episode. Some say that Messi was the one who got the ball in the first place so, technically, it was Griezmann who stole the ball. Meanwhile, others claim that the Frenchman was in a better position to shoot so the captain shouldn’t have intervened.
Elviolafeos1: “Option 1: You don’t take the ball and obstruct your partner’s view. Option 2: you try to finish it yourself.”
Xavismo3: “Option 3: You get out of the way and let Grizou teach you how to hit the ball and burst the net.”
MisterCruyff14: “The ball fell to Messi after Griezmann’s lousy control, which goes a metre away. Messi controls it, turns and shoots. Where is the problem? Have you ever played football? FIFA doesn’t count, I mean football with real people where you have to make a decision in a fraction of a second.”
susoleivinha: “Anyone who has ever played football knows that the one facing the ball, Griezmann, has the advantage!”
BestAnsuFCB: “Are you going to criticize this? Let me laugh, Griezmann was still preparing his shot while Messi had already taken it. If Messi didn’t get the ball away, the defenders would have. You already criticize the things Messi does well, hahaha.”
vega0899: “The point is not who obstructs whom, the point is that this clearly shows that Messi and Griezmann are incompatible on the pitch, they play in the same areas. In this debate, the Barcelona fans will always choose Leo. Without further ado, Griezmann’s signing was unnecessary.”
