“Cristiano Ronaldo knows English and Leo Messi knows football,” Fabio Capello told journalists back in 2011 when asked which player he would naturalize to play for England, where the coach worked between 2007 and 2012.
Messi is often criticized for not speaking English as he does interviews in Spanish only. This perhaps has to do with his shy personality, it’s been said that the Argentine perfectly understands Catalan but answers back in Spanish despite having lived in Catalonia for almost 20 years now.

As for Capello, he’s called the Barcelona captain the best player in the world several times despite having worked at Real Madrid. Moreover, the Italian even wanted to take Leo on loan back when coaching Juventus.
