The Red Devils are expected to make waves in the summer transfer market.

  • Manchester United will prioritise signing a new centre-back to play alongside Harry Maguire next season, according to ESPN FC.
  • The four names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s shortlist are Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Sevilla’s Jules Kounde, Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings and Braga’s David Carmo.
  • Victor Lindelof is expected to remain at Old Trafford for at least one more year but there are questions over Eric Bailly. While Solskjaer’s is said to be ‘a fan’ of the Ivorian, his injury record remains a major concern.

Solskjaer’s 4 defensive targets

  • Varane: the Frenchman’s future is in question with his Madrid deal running out in 2022.
  • Kounde: the 22-year-old is rated among the best young centre-backs in Europe.
  • Mings: a key player in the impressive Villa side this season, Mings will not be short of options.
  • Carmo: 21-year-old Carmo almost joined Liverpool in January but the transfer fell through.
