Owen believes United need to sign a young striker who can be their No.9 for the next decade.
Berbatov agrees with him that Erling Haaland is a perfect fit for the Red Devils because of his incredible goal-scoring consistency.
Speaking about the striker Man United should target to be the long-term No.9, Michael Owen told Stadium Astro: “At the moment, Manchester United have struggled to find that young player that’s going to take them all the way as a No 9.
“I think the one player out there that springs to mind that could be that type of player that could last for 10 years in their team and to stop them having to keep buying stop-gaps all the time is (Erling) Haaland at Dortmund.
“I think he’s the player on everybody’s lips at the moment, so he is one player that I think could potentially be the No 9 that could last a long time.”
Dimitar Berbatov also agreed with him, saying: “[Haaland] is the guy. He is still so young and the future is ahead of him. The amount of goals he’s scoring is unbelievable, he could be a great, great fit for United if he develops the same way as he is doing now.
“He is going to cost a lot of money obviously but for a talent like this, you can go and try your best to sign him.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is known for being a long-time admirer of Haaland and even tried persuading him to join United before he moved to Borussia Dortmund.
Since joining the Bundesliga club, the Norwegian striker has scored for fun – including 19 goals from 16 games this season. The Red Devils are reportedly still interested in signing him, but his association with notorious agent Mino Raiola complicates a future deal.
