Chelsea keen on signing €65m-rated versatile Austrian defender

David Alaba is out-of-deal at Bayern Munich next summer and is yet to put pen to paper on new terms in Germany, meaning there is an opportunity that he could leave the Bundesliga giants next summer on a free transfer.

Though Thiago Silva, who joined the London giants during the summer, has been in impressive form since arriving at Chelsea and is poised to sign a new contract, he is now at the age of 36, meaning Frank Lampard could been keen to source a long-term replacement for him.

Austria international has played the bulk of his career at left-back but has more recently converted to a centre-back in recent months, meaning he could be a suitable option to succeed Thiago Silva in the heart of the back-line.

Though David is likely to attract a lot of interest from across Europe, with the defender having been crucial in the Bavarians successes in recent years, the London giants could be in an ideal position to secure his signature should he fail to extend his remain at Allianz Arena.

If the London giants were to strike a deal for the Austrian defender, the club’s supporters would no doubt be waiting to see what shirt number he would be awarded. Throughout his career, the former Hoffenheim loanee has worn a plethora of different numbers.

For instance, since 2010 the left-back has always worn No.27 for Bayern, but for the Austrian national team, he has worn shirt No.8 since 2010 as well. And luckily enough for the 28-year-old defender, should he seal a move to Blues, he would be allowed to pick either of those two numbers as they are currently vacant.
