The Chelsea board and scouts will have a front seat tonight to watch one of the most exciting North American stars in football tonight as Jonathan David will play at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League.
David has scored 12 goals in 21 Ligue 1 starts this season for Lille, as well as three more in six UCL games.
Goal.com’s Nizaar Kinsella reports that Chelsea have been interested in the 22-year-old striker for some time now: “He is versatile, efficient and quick, a phenomenal modern striker that should only get better as he moves towards his fifth full season as a professional.”
He adds that Chelsea have ‘kept an eye’ on David for two seasons and will be watching him closely in tonight’s games.
However, a move for the player will depend on a big-money signing such as Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku leaving the Blues this summer.
A fee of around €45m is ‘expected to be good enough’ for Lille to sell David, as per the report.
David’s agent mentioned that his client remains interested in the Premier League but there will no doubt be a lot of competition for his signature, with several top European clubs interested in the Canadian international.
