Messi handed a transfer request last summer.
Barca refused to either let him go for free or sell the 33-year-old.
The Barcelona interim president admits that was probably a mistake as the club badly need money right now.
“From an economic point of view, I would have sold Messi in the summer,” the Barcelona interim president Carles Tusquets said in an interview with RAC1.
“It would have been desirable for the money we would have received, and for what we would have saved.”
In the summer, Lionel Messi wanted to trigger the clause in his contract with Barca that allows him to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of each season.
The Catalans, however, refused to either release the 33-year-old or sell him.
Now, Barcelona could lose the Argentine for free as he’s out of contract in 2021.
