- The 20-year-old is a target of brutal tackles in Segunda B.
- This is why Barca are thinking about loaning the midfielder in January.
- The Catalans prefer to send Puig abroad.
After the breakthrough to the first team last season, La Masia gem Riqui Puig was forced to return to Barca B due to the Catalans’ overbooked midfield.
However, according to Catalan news outlet L’Esportiu, now Barca are seriously considering sending Puig on loan, preferably to another European League. As per an earlier report from Diario Sport, move to the Eredivisie has more backing withing the club. They believe that Segunda B is too harsh for the young midfielder: there is more fight there than actual football.
Just last Saturday, the 20-year-old has suffered a bruise in the right fibula after another dangerous tackle from the opponent and had to leave the field on stretchers. Luckily he was able to return to training in a couple of days.
Earlier on, as Barcelona B were taking on Orihuela, Puig suffered after a horrible double-tackle just before the final whistle. So this is certainly not an empty concern from Barca.
Riqui is expected to be promoted to the first team next season so it’s likely that he will only spend half a year away from Barcelona: from January and until the end of the season.
