Arsenal’s away kit for the 2020/21 season has officially been unveiled and is available now from Arsenal Direct.

Following up an impressive first season back with the club, the German sportswear giants have taken the unexpected route of using an off-white base with a maroon design for the shirt, moving away from traditional yellow and blue.

In doing so, Adidas are taking a more direct approach in referencing the rich history of the club with the kit acting as a literal call back to the Marble Halls that remain in the East Stand at Highbury.

Arsenal Women will be the first to wear the new threads when they face Paris Saint-Germain Feminines in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final on Saturday [August 22].

Taking this direction, Adidas also experimented with new methods of creating the look for the kit. Rather than having the constraints of digital formatting, they were given the freedom to explore the use of hand drawn designs, inks, paint and even dying processes.

While the dominant colour of the shirt is off-white, the shorts will be solid maroon with a return to off-white on the socks. The sponsors will be black as the names and numbers will be on the back.

“Arsenal’s place in north London is synonymous with the club’s move to Highbury in 1913,” said Webb.

“Quite simply, it was the birthplace of the modern club. We wanted to take the community–through design-back to Highbury’s halls, to reminisce via a pattern that speaks to the significance of this chapter of the club’s history.

“Importantly for this jersey, we wanted to bring these echoes of Highbury into Emirates Stadium, to a new generation of fans, and to the modern player, all via a jersey that fuses the marble style with the latest performance innovations for the 2021 athlete.”

Gearing up to wear the kit for the first time in a competitive match in Real Sociedad’s Anoeta Stadium [where the PSG game is being played], Lisa Evans gave her thoughts on the new look.

“The kit looks and feels great, and what’s even more exciting is the fact we will be the first to wear it in such a big game for the club this weekend. The whole team is excited to get back on the pitch and put in a good performance.”

Reiss Nelson, who will be looking to kick on under Mikel Arteta this season, also had his say on the kit and its connection with the fan base.

“Arsenal and Adidas have a history of creating amazing kits together and this season’s designs feel like another step forward,” the 20-year-old explained.

“For any Arsenal fan Highbury is very important to what we are as a club, so being able to represent some of that as we take the field in this new marble away kit will be a proud moment.”
