Shearer suggests Tuchel has given everyone an opportunity in the squad.
The former Newcastle man points to Mount, Chilwell, and Alonso as examples of Tuchel’s rotation so far.
Shearer feels that Chelsea are lacking a top-quality striker.
The Blues will challenge for the top 4 but would need a striker to go to the next level, states Shearer.
“He’s [Tuchel] given everyone an opportunity,” Alan Shearer said on BBC’s Match of the Day.
“He didn’t play [Mason] Mount in the first game, he’s swapped it over with [Ben] Chilwell and [Marcos] Alonso, [Olivier] Giroud has been in there, he’s changed the system slightly. He’s given everyone the opportunity to impress him.
“I still think they are lacking that top-quality centre-forward to challenge [for the title].
“They’ll challenge for fourth but I think to go to the next level they’ll need a top centre-forward.”
Currently, Chelsea have Giroud, Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner as the 3 main strike options.
While Giroud’s age is not on his side, Tammy is still not quite there yet as a top-level forward.
Meanwhile, Werner has all the required skills to be world-class but he can always work with another top striker alongside him.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Erling Haaland but Tuchel has remained coy on any transfer activity so far.
