Lionel Messi has many reasons to consider the PSG move.
Neymar’s words after the match against Manchester United gave fans of Paris Saint-Germain a hope to see the reunion of Neymar and Lionel Messi in their own club.
The Brazilian said that it was his dream to play alongside his friend again and that he would be willing to give up his position to Lionel Messi in order for him to join PSG.
The Parisians certainly have the resources to sign the Argentine and the player himself admitted that he is not feeling very comfortable at Barcelona.
The years of neglect by the previous board and the way ex-president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, treated him and his fellow teammates, has left a very bad taste in his mouth and it is very likely he may move away from the club at the end of the season as a free agent.
Manchester City have been leading the race to acquire the Argentine international especially because of Pep Guardiola and Leo’s best friend Kun Aguero. While the Premier League giants continue to lead, many other European giants have also shown their interest. Inter Milan, Chelsea, PSG and many more are considering the idea of securing the six-time Ballon D’or winner.
But the French champions have recently emerged as a favorite alongside City, especially with Neymar publically calling for his arrival and board members
Here are five reasons as to why Lionel Messi could join PSG over the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea,
A Huge Lucrative Contract
Barcelona are going through a lot of financial troubles at the moment and they could no longer support the full wages of the players. Thus a pay cut had to be implemented in order to maintain the yearly budget. In Paris, Messi will have none of these problems. PSG’s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, is an avid fan of the little magician and would be willing to pay an arm and a leg to bring him over to the French capital. He would be offered a contract similar to his current one with Barcelona or it could be even further improved. Joining PSG would mean that Messi will surely continue to be one of the highest earners in World football.
A Competitive Project
Paris Saint-Germain has been dominating the French League since 2012, only surrendering the trophy once in 2017, when they lost to the wonder team of Monaco. They are back on track for European domination and they even reached the finals of the UEFA Champions League last season only to lose to Bayern Munich by a single goal. PSG is certainly still a project in making and once they are completed, they could go on to be kings of Europe for a long time. Bringing in one of the best players in the world will only strengthen their already formidable team and Messi himself stated that he wants to be part of a more competitive team, as he was tired of the way the Barcelona board were mishandling their on-field problems.
Neymar and other compatriots
Should Messi not be tempted with money, he can also be persuaded by one of his best friends, Neymar. Although the Brazilian left the world-class MSN trio in 2017, the two share a very good friendship and it is evidently clear that they want to be reunited. Messi requested the Barcelona board to go for the Neymar transfer but the club could not buy him back as PSG would not sell him. Now it is Neymar’s turn to try and bring the duo back together, but this time in France. Neymar already said he dreams about playing with Messi again and national team players such as Angel Di-Maria and Leandro Paredes will also give their captain a loving and warm welcome.
An Easier Domestic League
Another reason as to why Messi could choose PSG over Manchester City is because of the less intensity of the French league. The Premier League is known to be a very rugged and physically demanding league and even a strong and physical player like Didier Drogba had struggles fitting into the English league after his transfer from Marseille to Chelsea. Messi is already 33 years of age so moving to a less intense league would mean that he could extend his career for a few more years and not be too worried about injuries.
The Beautiful City of Paris
The last reason comes down to personal preference but after living practically his entire life in sunny Spain, it is not likely that Messi and his family would enjoy the dull and gray weather of Manchester, England. Paris on the other hand will offer Messi and his family a familiar weather and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Messi’s family will not have to adapt to a different lifestyle and will only need to learn the language. His wife, a model, will also benefit from the move to Paris as the city is known to be the fashion capital of the world.
