Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona will certainly cause another whirlwind in Spain, but not every player around Barca will benefit from his comeback – if it ever happens.
Here are the players who may not be too happy to see Messi back:
Memphis Depay
Things are already bad enough for Memphis with just one start since he returned from injury in February. That’s one start in the last 5 Barca games.
Besides a lack of playing time, the Dutchman will become expendable if Leo returns.
Sergio Busquets
Understandably, Leo and Sergio Busquets are friends. The question is, who becomes Barca’s first captain if Leo makes a comeback.
Messi had the armband before leaving for PSG. Perhaps Busi will not make a fuss of giving the armband to Messi, but that’ll surely be a loss for him.
Adama Traore
Barcelona are still trying to decide whether to keep Adama or not at the end of the season.
Barca’s mind will certainly be made up quickly if Messi makes a return.
Lewandowski
The Polish striker has not yet been signed by Barca, but the possibility keeps improving and we could see the goal machine at Camp Nou next season.
Hold that thought though, if Messi reappears at Camp Nou this summer, Lewandowski will not play for Barca.
Raphinha
Again, not yet a Barca player, but Raphinha may already be dreaming of signing for Barcelona and playing Champions League football. That dream will be dashed if Messi returns this summer.
