Paulo Dybala’s contract at Juventus expires at the end of the season, and Barcelona are said to be interested in him. The Argentine would offer quite the versatility, so here are the three different ways we could line up with him.
Option
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen – Dani Alves, Araujo, Garcia, Alba – Busquets, F. de Jong, Pedri – Ferran Torres, Dybala, Ansu Fati.
Dybala at centre-forward is the most obvious option, although it’s clear that he wouldn’t be playing as an out-and-out striker. Instead, he’d be more of a false nine, dropping deep to help in the build-up and create chances.
Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres, two quick wingers with an eye for the goal, could make Barca’s attacking trio one of the most lethal in Europe.
In midfield and defence, Xavi might continue with more or less the same players he uses now.
Option 2
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen – Dani Alves, Araujo, Eric Garcia, Alba – F. de Jong, Gavi, Pedri – Dybala, Ferran Torres, Ansu Fati.
A left-footed, creative forward, Dybala on the right wing could play the same role as Leo Messi in his last years at Camp Nou. The Argentine already has experience playing in that position.
In midfield, Xavi could opt for Frenkie de Jong in the pivot role, sending Sergio Busquets to the bench. Besides, we would need a more dynamic midfield to cover for Dybala defensively.
Option 3
Barcelona XI: Ter Stegen – Araujo, Pique, Eric Garcia – Busquets, F. de Jong, Pedri, Dybala – Ferran Torres, Haaland, Ansu Fati.
This one is quite experimental, and also implies that we sign Erling Haaland as well.
Anyway, Dybala behind a striker is perhaps the best version of Dybala. With a top scorer like Haaland above him, the Argentine should be able to shine like never before. Provided that he also stays healthy, which hasn’t always been the case at Juventus.
It would also be nice to have a younger centre-back to replace Gerard Pique. We are yet to have reliable reports about a new defender coming to Barca, though, so the veteran stays.
