Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has commended the Federal Government on ecological intervention to tackle environmental challenges in the state.
He described the intervention as not only desirable but also critical to curtailing the prevailing risks and dangers associated with all ecological and environmental challenges in Osun.

Oyetola gave the commendation during the inauguration and handover ceremony of the erosion and flood control works at Agbara Canal in Ile-Ife.

The governor stressed that the intervention would bring solace to the community and its environs, adding that this would also alleviate the hardship of neighbouring farmers and road users during the rainy season.
The governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Benedict Alabi, assured that his administration would continue to place a high premium on matters concerning the general well-being of the people of the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office, Dr. Habiba Lawal, said the project was initiated through a request for urgent intervention forwarded to his office by the state government.

MEANWHILE, the state government has unveiled a plan to honour 28 distinguished and prominent citizens of the state.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Charles Akinola, disclosed this, yesterday while addressing journalists at a press conference on the imperatives of the 30th-anniversary celebration of the creation of the state.
Akinola said the celebration would on Thursday, September 9, 2021 feature an anniversary colloquium fielding high-profile resource persons like former Osun State Governor Bisi Akande, Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Media and Publicity), Dr. Reuben Abati and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Yemi Farounbi, among others.

He said the anniversary colloquium would be a hybrid event, organised both in the physical and virtual spheres, adding that the decision was necessary because of the peculiarity of the season.

The awardees, according to him, were selected by a jury on the basis of their service to Osun State and contributions to the global and local society.

“Both indigenes and non-indigenes who have contributed to the development of Osun State were meticulously selected, and there is no restriction to age, gender, religion, ethnicity or tribe.

“It is our conviction that this will serve as inspiration to others to contribute to the progress of the state”, Akinola said.
