Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged speakers of state houses of assembly to institute a robust democratic culture that will stabilise the country.
Speaking while opening the second quarter general meeting of the Conference of Speakers of state legislatures in Nigeria, Okowa said the executive and legislative arms must work as a team to play critical roles that will promote good governance, as well as open windows of opportunities to ensure political stability and fostering sustainable economic growth.

According to the governor, if both arms of governments have mutual distrust, suspicion, friction and conflict, definitely it will lead to crisis and failure of government to deliver on its policies and programmes.

“Where the two arms see themselves as partners, understand the spirit and letter of the principles of the separation of powers, the inevitable outcome is effective policy formulation and implementation, which will lead to excellent service delivery.”

In his remark, Chairman, Conference of Speakers, Abubakar Suleiman, said the quarterly meeting avail speakers the medium to deliberate on issues affecting the state legislature and other topical national issues for the development of the country.
