The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
The Head of WAEC’s Nigeria Office (HNO), Patrick Areghan, made this announcement in Lagos on Monday.
Areghan said that among the 1,613,733 candidates who participated in the examination, the results of 262,803 candidates have been withheld due to reported instances of examination malpractice.
He added that there has been an improvement in the pass rate of candidates, as a total of 1,361,608 candidates, representing 84.38 per cent, obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects with or without English Language or Mathematics.
Areghan noted that 1,287,920 candidates, constituting 79.81 percent of the overall candidates, attained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, encompassing English Language and Mathematics.
He also announced that his retirement from the examination body is scheduled for a few weeks from now.
