Xiaomi sells 30,000 Mi Mix Folds worth $61m in less than 60 seconds

The Mi Mix Fold is Xiaomi’s first-gen foldable phablet, and thus offers an 8-inch main display in a book-like form-factor. It has just been released for sale in China, which, according to the OEM, has been a complete success. Xiaomi claims to have sold all stock of the device for ~US$61 million in just 1 minute.

Xiaomi sells 30,000 Mi Mix Folds in less than 60 secondsThe Mi Mix Fold might be a relatively tall foldable phablet, be potentially strong with the crease and cost enough to buy a new Mi 11 Pro to repair should Xiaomi decide any damage to it falls out of its warranty. Nevertheless, it is arguably effective for a first-gen flexible-display device, even just because its maker has managed not to punctuate its main 8.01-inch 2K AMOLED screen with an in-display selfie camera.

Xiaomi has just held the first Chinese-market general sale for the device, which, according to the OEM, has resulted in a complete sell-out of all stock in about a minute. This has allowed it to rake in 400 million yuan in revenue for the event.

Therefore, we can deduce that Xiaomi had between about 30,000 and 40,000 units of the Mi Mix Fold to sell. This is because the device starts at 9,999 yuan for a 12GB RAM/128GB internal storage SKU, 1,000 yuan more for one with 256GB of space instead, or 12,999 yuan for the foldable’s top-end, 16GB RAM, carbon-fiber-effect option.

Xiaomi did not mention how many of each SKU shipped during this intial sales event. Instead, it chose to thank the tens of thousands of their buyers for their “love and trust”, not to mention their “expectations”, over the years running up to the Mi Mix Fold’s debut in announcing these results. Hopefully, it will be followed by international availability, for its next generations at least, if not for this current device.
