Why we inculcate entrepreneurial skills in youths, by Enugu government

The Enugu State Government yesterday said that inculcating entrepreneurial skills in young people would help check crime.
Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Manfred Nzekwe, who stated this while handing cheques and sponsorship materials to winners of the 2020 Youth Entreprise Ideas Challenge, a programme of the Enugu Youth Entrepreneurship Network (EYEN), said that the state government had decided to give skill and training acquisition priorities in schools.

He stated that the government would continue to support initiatives that could promote youth development in the state.
Nzekwe added that the government recently unveiled the “Enugu Youth Rescue Project”, which would run between 2020 and 2023 to help youths.

Winners of the EYEN were presented with funds and sponsorship packages to enable them to set up their own businesses.Odoemena Chukwu and Anthony Anaelechukwu received N100,000 and sponsorship packages at the event held at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

The commissioner urged youths to desist from acts capable of ruining their futures.The Secretary General of EYEN, Okoro Ikemba, said the programme was created to develop skills and promote knowledge among youths in the state

He added: “EYEN is a community-based organisation that uses entrepreneurship to engage youths between the ages of 16 to 35 residing in Enugu.”

Ikemba, who exhibited an automated handwashing machine he built at the event, stated that it was his ‘brainchild’, adding that it was part of his contribution to help combat coronavirus.

He urged youths in the country to look inwards and think out how they could bring about solutions to their immediate environmental challenges.
