Governor of Gombe State, Mohammed Yahaya, has declared that his people are united in the determination to ward off religious and ethnic differences for peace and security in the state and the North East in general.

Yahaya’s assurance came, yesterday, against the backdrop of reprisals in parts of the country, and specifically the myriad of challenges brought about by high-level insecurity besetting Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states of the North East.

“We thank God as far as the issue of security is concerned. We are amid the North East and are aware of the challenges the frontline states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa are facing.
“So, we try as much as possible to guide our people to live in peace and harmony, despite our differences in the area of religion, ethnicity and others that normally cause rift among the people,” he stated.

The governor said that much had been achieved working with security agencies and the people on how to manage the emerging issues in the state.

His words: “We have got the understanding of our people. And with the support of the security agencies, we have been able to relate and manage security in Gombe State and we are happy. Insha Allah, we shall try to sustain that, going forward.”

Stakeholders, including monarchs, students and religious groups recently met to chart a way forward and sustain the existing harmony in the state, he added.
