Water resources bill dead on arrival — reps member

Member representing Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Dr. Simon Mwadkwom Fwet, has said that Water Resources Bill was dead on arrival.

Speaking with journalists in Jos, yesterday, Fwet said: “Even before the Bill was presented to us, it had been thrown away. The argument before us showed that nobody was interested in it. We believe it was inimical to the country.

“All land matters belong to the states. The Federal Government doesn’t have any control of land. For it to claim it owns all water ways is heinous. I say that bill is dead. Nobody supported it. As far as House of Representatives was concerned, it died on arrival.

“We believe it was an attempt to institutionalise Fulani hegemony in Nigeria, especially the foreign Fulani. The Bill was a time bomb. It was capable of throwing the nation into anarchy. It is dead. It can come again only in the 10th Assembly. Land in the Constitution belongs to the states and not Federal Government.”

Fwet also called for an Igbo Presidency during the 2023 general elections. He said: “Southwest has tasted the Presidency and the North has also tasted. It is high time we recognised the Southeast. We have not reached the stage where we can say, let the best come out of the electoral system. Let every part vie and produce the President. I don’t want a part of the country to be marginalised. If we don’t want to break this country, let there be justice, while the Presidency should go round.

“Justice should be done by carrying everybody along. It will be an injustice to the Southeast, except they agree that Presidency should be between North and South…”He also condemned attack on the District Head of Foron, Da Bulus Chuwang Jang, which led to his death, saying that was “unwarranted and unprovoked.”

Jang was stabbed and shot at close range last Monday around 8.00p.m. by unknown hoodlums, who had been trailing him.He faulted government’s claim of always being on top of the situation without any arrest or prosecution.

“We have never seen any arrested criminals being prosecuted. We want to see the prosecution of the criminal elements. I have personally submitted names of the criminals to the security agencies but none has been prosecuted,” he lamented

Commenting on N10b the Federal Government promised to give the community where no fewer than 300 people were massacred in Gashish, he said: “Nothing was done. I’ll send the motion to the House, again.”

On amnesty granted to repentant Boko Haram, he wondered why the Federal Government would pardon people, who had killed many Nigerians and brought sorrow to many homes.
