The Vice-Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has said that the institution was determined to channel resources into a hybrid system of teaching in order to create more engaging learning experiences for its students and also provide practical interaction between them and professional organisations.

Ogundipe said this during the commissioning of the Faculty of Engineering Webinar Room and the Auto Diagnostic Centre at the Faculty of Engineering recently.

He said: “The Webinar room was donated by our 1999 alumni set of the Faculty of Engineering to oncoming Engineering students. Interestingly, the alumni have had the innovative concept even before the pandemic virus. Through the Webinar room space, students will receive lectures even from other universities, interact with organisations and be exposed to the practical side of their field of study even before graduation. The world is going in the direction of a hybrid system of teaching and we are ensuring that our students fit in perfectly.

On the commissioning of the Auto Diagnostic Centre, Ogundipe said: “The workshop will expose our students to the practical side of their programme and also improve on innovation. When you do your research it will migrate to innovation and then entrepreneurship. We are encouraging our students now to show more interest in entrepreneurship.”

President, 1999 Alumni set Faculty of Engineering, Engineer Olufemi Samuel, said: “The Webinar room project is our way of giving back to the institution that produced us. Teaching has gone digital and with the webinar room, the oncoming students can now link up with international students and experts.

It would also aid studies for oncoming Engineering students and the university at large.

Dean Faculty of Engineering Prof. Funso Falade, said: “The Auto Diagnostic Centre was set up for students studying Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering and those who have entrepreneurial skills and want to navigate since engineering is broad-based. Once you have the fundamentals you can migrate…”

The workshop has the all the necessary equipment that our students can use for vehicle analysis, diagnosis and prognosis.”
