The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) has empowered 11,500 women with N30,000 each in ten states to mitigate the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on vulnerable women and youths.
Speaking at the close of the first phase of the Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE) Project, which started in April 2020, UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria, Ms Comfort Lamptey, said the project, over the years, proved that economic empowerment could increase the decision-making powers of vulnerable women and reduce their level of vulnerability to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

According to her, 10,737 vulnerable women in 10 states have bank accounts and can access banking services in rural communities, while 767 who could not access banking services have fund for healthcare.
