Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, yesterday, cautioned Bureau De Change operators and other traders who ply their businesses on the streets to stay away from major roads in the state to avoid problems.

He stated that his infrastructure projects in the 23 council areas of the state billed for commissioning next month, would humble his detractors, who have accused him of concentrating development in Port Harcourt alone.

Governor Wike stated this at the commissioning of Emeyal, Elelenwo and General Diya street, roads in the New GRA Phase 2, Obio-Akpor Council Area by Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Specifically, he warned those who abandon the markets in various parts of the state and Bureau-De Change operators against trading along the roads.

He explained that the expansion and reconstruction of the roads in Eligbam and Rumuodalu communities was part of his administration’s urban renewal programme, adding that property in the areas have been improved and their value enhanced.

He disclosed that several projects were ready for inauguration from the beginning of 2021, as a proof that his administration was committed to working for the state and fulfilling his promises.

Governor Wike said the Opobo-Andoni Unity road was ready for commissioning in January 2021 and it would enable the people to drive directly to the Island, 150 years after it was founded.

Speaking further, Wike said the street lights on the 16km Sakpenwaa-Bori road was lit on Sunday night and everywhere went agog because the people are happy about what they saw, adding that the road had been extended by another 20km to Kono Town.

Governor Wike also said his administration has constructed a ring road for the people of Akuku-Toru local government area. He enjoined critics of his administration to visit local governments in the state and to ascertain whether there were projects or not.

Unveiling the roads, Governor Fintiri noted that Wike committed himself to advancing the quality of life of the Rivers people with his landmark projects and making a difference that was unprecedented in the state.

He acknowledged that Governor Wike was an irrepressible democrat, who had continued to demonstrate uncommon vision and courage in working for the Rivers people and advancing Nigeria’s unity.

State Commissioner for Works, Elloka Tasie-Amadi, said the roads were rehabilitated under the Rivers State Government Urban Renewal Programme, adding that all the roads have streetlights and have been marked for better traffic management.
