The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), yesterday, confirmed investigating the commander of Kano Hisbah Board, a village head and a woman over alleged sale of a year-old baby.

Briefing journalists on Monday, NAPTIP Zonal Commandant in Kano, Shehu Umar, revealed that the agency had received brief from Hisbah headquarters over illegal possession of a baby by a strange woman in Fagge area of the state.

NAPTIP commandant disclosed that investigation revealed that the Hisbah commander, who is in charge of Fagge Local Command and the Village Head of Fagge might have connived to sell the abandoned baby to one Mrs Loveth. Umar revealed that the woman claimed to have paid N20,000 to the village head and Hisbah commander before the baby was released to her.

Although, the NAPTIP boss stressed that the woman did not disclose whether the money paid was meant to purchase or adopt the baby, he maintained that the village head and Hisbah commander denied receiving money before handing over the baby.
