Sanwo-Olu gets AfriSAFE award nomination for COVID-19 response

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has been nominated alongside some top African leaders by Health, Environment and Safety (HSE) professionals for the Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) 2020 Icon of the year, for being proactive at the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This was disclosed by the Chairman, AfriSAFE Board of Governors, Rear Admiral S.A. Olukoya (rtd). Olukoya said the nominated individuals were identified to have displayed a high standard of leadership and were able to implement strategies that helped to reduce the negative impact of the virus.

He noted that AfriSAFE received over 1,200 entries from safety practitioners across four African regions. Other individuals who have been shortlisted for other categories of the award include Huub Stokman, CEO, OVH Energy; Deepanjan Roy, CEO, Chi Limited; Festus Olaoye, CEO Beam Energy; Paul Harriman, CEO, Egbin Power; Jude Abalaka, CEO, Tranos; David John Townsend, CEO, Palmers Green International Ltd; Ufuoma Imonioro, CEO AVM Offshore; Mrs Olatokunbo A. Fagbemi, CEO, Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc, among others.

The AfriSAFE 2020 will also honour a young individual with the best innovation with cash prize and professional HSE courses as knowledge investment to support the innovation.

Among those nominated for the young categories are Mater Ecclesiae College students; Isaac Success (Dream from the Slum initiatives); Akingbola Adewunmi, (Health Drive Nigeria); and Tolani Odukoya, (The Mindset Africa).
