First Lady begins free VVF/RVF surgery for women
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has sworn-in Justice Joe Acha as the new Chief Judge (CJ) of the state.

Speaking during the swearing-in ceremony at the Government House, Benin City, Obaseki stressed the need for collaboration among the three arms of government to boost good governance.

Obaseki charged the new Chief Judge to embrace the same institutional reforms that would ensure that the state’s judiciary was fit for purpose and meets international best practices in all respects.

He also swore in 11 commissioners and two Special Advisers as members of the Edo State Executive Council (EXCO).

The commissioners are Joseph Eboigbe (Finance) Prof. Obehi Akoria (Health), Mrs. Otse Momoh-Omorogbe (Budget and Planning), Dr. Joan Osa Oviawe (Education) and Isoken Omo (Physical Planning and Urban Development).

Others are Moses Agbukor (Water Resources), Ethan Uzamere (Mining, Gas and Oil), Maria Edeko (Social Development and Gender), Monday Osaigbovo (Local Government), Andrew Emwanta (Communication and Orientation) and Oluwole Iyamu (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice).

Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie and Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, who was appointed Special Adviser, Strategy, Policy, Projects and Performance Management, were also sworn in.
MEANWHILE, wife of the governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, yesterday, commenced free surgery for women with Vesicovagina fistula (VVF) and Rectovagina fistula (RVF) as part of her maternal and child health initiative through her VVF Centre at the Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City.

The Edo First Lady, who was accompanied by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Edo Specialist Hospital, Prof. Ileogben Adeoye, said the free surgeries and rehabilitation would extend to women from neighbouring states.

Explaining that VVF or RVF was a condition of feminine urinary or fecal incontinence resulting from multiple causes, she said the most common issues affecting maternal health in the country has to do with prolonged labour due to large fetal size.
