NasiruIngawa, a star witness of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the alleged misappropriation of N5.7 billion Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) funds by former Katsina State governor, Ibrahim Shema, says he cannot prove that he collected and gave any money to Shema.
Shema is standing trial for alleged diversion of the N50.7 billion SURE-P funds while he was governor.
Ingawa, a special adviser to Shema on SURE-P at the time, had alleged that the former governor asked him to withdraw and hand over the monies to him.
But at the resumed trail at the Federal High Court in the state, Ingawa in a statement alleged that all monies in question were withdrawn by the former SURE-P Finance Director, Abdulazees Shinkafi, for onward transfer to the ex-governor.
He, however, said that he didn’t have documented evidence to show that money was collected by him from the former director and given to the defendant.
When asked by the defendant counsel, Sebasine Tar (SAN) if he had any proof of receiving money from the SURE-P director, he said, “No, I don’t have.”
He also said he had no document to show that he took any money to the defendant.
Justice Hadiza Shagari adjourned the trial till March 12 at the instance of the prosecution counsel, to enable him to put his house in order.
