COVID-19: Nigeria Virus Toll Spike Despite Chinese Doctors Arrival

Nigeria Coronavirus Death Toll — The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Nigeria climbed to thirteen on Thursday April 16 2020, despite the arrival of a 15-man Chinese Medical Experts, Afriupdate reports.

The virus spread to evermore states in Nigeria and world capitals, even as new cases in China dropped to their lowest level in six weeks.

As at Thursday evening, Nigeria had recorded about 442 COVID-19 cases and 13 deaths, according to NCDC.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced this via its verified Twitter handle on Thursday evening.

The health agency also confirmed 35 new cases of the deadly Coronavirus infection bringing total confirmed cases in the country to 442 with 152 discharged as shown below:

Thirty-five new cases of #COVID19 have been reported as follows:

19 in Lagos
9 in FCT
5 in Kano
2 in Oyo

It would be recalled that a 15-man Chinese Medical doctors arrived Nigeria on Wednesday 8 April 2020, to assist the government tackle the deadly Coronavirus (COVID-19) despite disapproval from some Nigerians and health workers’ groups.

The minister of state, health, Olorunnimbe Mamora, said the experts are in Nigeria alongside the equipment needed to curb the virus.

This online news medium had also reported that Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states for another 14 days, as cases of coronavirus in the country continue to rise.

“Our approach to the virus remains in 2 steps – First, to protect the lives of our fellow Nigerians and residents living here and second, to preserve the livelihoods of workers and business owners,”

“With this in mind and having carefully considered the briefings and Report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with Government in this fight.” said Buhari in a national broadcast on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has detected an increased in the number of confirmed COVID-19 Cases despite all the preventive measures rolled out by the Federal and state governments.
