Ndagoso, Gotan blame leaders for Nigeria’s woes, call for restructuring
Archbishop of Kaduna Catholic Diocese, Matthew Ndagoso

The Catholic Archbishop of Kaduna Diocese, Dr. Matthew Ndagoso, has said the lack of credible political leadership is the bane of Nigeria’s greatness.

In the same vein, the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Jos, Prof. Cletus Gotan, said the country failed to live up to expectation as it celebrated 60 years of independence.

The archbishop spoke with journalists at the 40th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass, Book launch and 68th birthday celebration of Very Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kure, at St Andrew’s Catholic Church, Kakuri, Kaduna State.

According to Ndagoso, the country is endowed with potential leaders, but the structure and system in place do not allow them to emerge.

He advocated the restructuring of the country and a practicable system of government that would be more inclusive and affordable for the country.

On his part, Gotan pointed out that as the country was celebrating 60 years of nationhood, “we should be ashamed in a certain sense for not living up to the expectation of our nationhood. We should have long gone beyond the posers of whether we want to restructure or live together, coupled with several challenges bedevilling us, thereby threatening our unity as a nation.”

He called for restructuring, if only it would correct some wrongs.

Gotan further said that restructuring meant so many things to so many people, adding: “Certain things are wrong; if correcting them means restructuring, it is fine. I want us to restructure our hearts, restructure our minds, so we will do the needful.

“We should fill ourselves with the love of God, which makes us to see the other person as a brother and a sister and not as a competitor. This is what is killing us.”
