Also in Ondo State, a 24-year-old farmer has been arraigned at an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping a 50-year-old grandmother. The suspect, Haruna Mohammed, was arraigned by the police on a one-count charge of rape.

It was gathered that Haruna allegedly had carnal knowledge of the victim identified as Ibukun Akinlo forcefully on July 8, 2020, on the Lalepa-Akinfosile Road at Igbotako axis of Ondo.

According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Omhenimhen, the offence is punishable under Section 358 of the Criminal Code CAP 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006. The plea of Haruna was not taken. Presiding Magistrate, Rasheedat Yakubu, ordered that the suspect be remanded in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Meanwhile, an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday sentenced one Emmanuel Idoko, a 37-year-old commercial motorcyclist, to 20 years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter.

Justice Sybil Nwaka, while delivering judgment on the charge of sexual assault by penetration against Idoko, said the prosecution provided ingredients necessary to prove its case.

“The defendant is found guilty of the charge of sexual assault by penetration contrary to Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015. He is hereby sentenced to 20-year imprisonment,” the judge said.

The prosecutor, Mr Babajide Boye, while presenting the case, had earlier told the court that Idoko committed the offence between July and November 2017 at his residence in Oworoshoki, Lagos.

According Boye, the accused sexually assaulted his 12-year-old daughter (name withheld) by penetrating her vagina using his finger. Also, Dr Oyedeji Alagbe, a medical doctor and a consultant with the Mirabel Centre (a sexual assault referral centre), while testifying for the prosecution narrated what the complainant revealed to him when he examined her.

He said: “The client declared in her history that her father, though not married to her mother, had her and her male sibling living with him. The victim’s ordeal started in 2016, a year before she was referred to the Mirabel Centre.

“The victim said her father came home and said that he heard from people that she was no longer a virgin and he needed to test her to see if it was true. He forced her to undress and said he will use his finger to test her, the client was reluctant. He scolded her and eventually did it with his fingers.

“He also said that he would use his penis to examine her and she refused, he beat her and he subsequently started torturing her in the home because she kept turning down his requests,” the doctor added.

However, the accused in his defence denied seeing his daughter’s nakedness and inserting his fingers into her private part to test her virginity.

In another development, a lady (name withheld) has reportedly been gang-raped by five members of the dreaded ‘One Million Boys’ in Ogijo area of Ogun State. The victim said she met one of the culprits simply known as ‘Enny Money,’ who gave her an app to download on her phone with an assurance that those she would meet through that app would help her financially.

She stated that as soon as she concluded the downloading, one man whom she later knew to be the same Enny Money, started chatting her and later invited her to Idimogun area of Ogijo. On getting there on July 23, she was lured into a house where she was subsequently gang-raped by five men who called themselves members of One Million Boys.

The gang, according to the victim, forced her to submission at gunpoint, while they took turns to rape her, and one of them did the video recording of the action with his phone.

She later reported the incident at the Ogijo Police Division. Upon receipt of the report, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the DPO Ogijo Division, CSP Muhammed Baba Suleiman, dispatched his detectives to go after the hoodlums and bring them to justice.

He said: “At about 5:00 a.m. of July 24, the detectives succeeded in arresting the duo of Sola Olaoluwa and Ibrahim Kehinde. Their arrest led the detectives to the third suspect, Lukman Banjoko, who was arrested on July 26. On interrogation, the suspects made confessional statements that they actually committed the crime as alleged.

“They further confessed that the victim was the second person they gang-raped in that area. Recovered from them are one toy gun with which they used to force their victims to submission and the phone, which they used to record their dastardly act.”

He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for in-depth investigation and equally directed that the remaining members of the gang be hunted for and brought to justice.
