Following the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lagos State Government, yesterday, cautioned residents against ignoring safety protocols aimed at containing the spread of Coronavirus, especially during the Christmas season.

Lagos Chief Resilience Officer (CRO), Gbolahan Oki, gave the charge at a media briefing on the activities of the Lagos State Resilience Office (LARSO) in implementing strategies towards curbing the spread of the virus.

He maintained that the second wave of the virus could be checked through strict adherence to all safety guidelines and other regulations issued by health authorities, warning residents to remain resilient and committed to fighting the scourge.

“We can jointly fight Coronavirus and stop its second coming if we are determined. We need to observe government regulations and COVID-19 safety protocols in our homes, public places, garages and parks, especially during the festive period.

“We were lucky that the Lagos State Government initiated good strategies that were effective during the first experience. I, therefore, urge our people not to be carried away by the euphoria of the season and ignore the safety protocols, we must join hands with the state government to stop the spread of the virus,” he stated.

While restating that not many countries of the world were as lucky and successful as Lagos State in the strategies adopted to fight the pandemic during the first outbreak, he urged residents to support the state government in consolidating the gains earlier recorded in containing its spread.

Oki also urged Lagos people to observe all safety regulations such as regular washing of hands with soap and running water, use of nose masks and alcohol-based sanitisers, physical distancing, temperature checks and stay at home when they notice strange symptoms.

Commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for showing leadership in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Oki assured that with the state government’s support, the agency would continue to implement policies and strategies towards ensuring that residents, institutions, communities and businesses remain resilient in the face of the pandemic.
