The Academic Forum of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has refuted rumours of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky’s death, but said his health and that of his wife, Malama Zeenah, was in critical state.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Abdullahi Musa, said a visit to Zakzaky by his son, Mohammed, revealed that although the duo were suffering from life-threatening health challenges as a result of multiple injuries, the couple were still alive.

Describing the state of their health as a matter of great concern, he restated the urgent need for them to be given proper medical attention.

“This is what they need in earnest, not virulent rumour-mongering, which is bad and unacceptable, particularly when spread by those in authority.

“Although the rumour is unfounded, it must have been peddled by evil and violence merchants for a malicious and mischievous purpose, for there is no smoke without fire. In this country, those in power have been found wanting time and again.

“Zakzaky and Zeenah’s health condition is seriously causing distress and worry. It is worth public attention as their health continues to deteriorate. In defiance of court orders, the Federal Government continues to detain the couple without the required medical treatment,” Abdullahi said.

The Shiites alleged that the recent rumors on Zakzaky had raised concern over his safety, adding: “It seems to be premeditated to either cause unrest or exploit the current situation in the country.”

The IMN also raised the issue of the 24-hour curfew imposed on Kaduna State due to alleged looting of palliative in Chikun and Kaduna South council areas and urged the state government to provide adequate security to protect lives and property in the affected areas, rather than impose statewide curfew, which it described as adding salt to the injuries of Kaduna people.
