Group laments insecurity, others, tasks leaders on way forward

A group, the National Alliance for Development (NADEV), yesterday, lamented insecurity, poor state of economy and other vices bedevilling the nation, urging various leaders in authority to wake up and build a new nation based on justice, fair-play and integrity, which is the dream of every Nigerian.

It also advised Nigerians to unite and demand accountability bordering on the level of poverty ravaging the country.

The group, at a one-day peace and democracy dialogue for development in Ikeja, Lagos, said that the peace and sovereign rights of the country were under threat with the ongoing crises across the country, which had claimed innocent lives and affected the economy.

Chairman, NADEV, Shetima Yerima, said the disunity of the country had triggered insecurity, violence, ethnic conflict and poverty with no one or group seriously demanding for accountability from those in authority, which he said, had worsen the crises, as many ethnic nationalities are seeking for their personal interest, thereby hurting themselves and their people unknowingly.

In the same vein, the immediate past President, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) Worldwide, Oweilaemi Pereotubo, said because the citizens do not come together as one, the leaders and authorities are taking the citizens for granted.

Also, the President, Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW), Oladotun Hassan, lamented the debt profile of Nigeria, describing it as humongous, which he said, would cause a lot of crisis in the near future.

He said: “Nigeria has always been found with issues of debt profile which calls for national concern because our future is sinking and we need to revive it.”

On his part, Publisher of Cross River Watch, Agba Jalingo, alleged sabotage on the issue of insecurity in the country, noting: “Those who are supposed to be fighting insecurity are actually those fuelling it because they are benefiting from the crisis.

“We cannot be killing ourselves and have a good country. Everyone appears to be fighting for his or her right to get what the country can offer and not for the collective good of the people.”
