Government plans to deploy disinfectant booths to schools

The Federal Government has announced plans to deploy locally fabricated disinfectant booths to public schools across the country to curtail Coronavirus spread, as schools reopen for academic activities.

Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, who disclosed this in an interview with The Guardian, said the booths would ensure that students would not contract Coronavirus from their homes to infect others in school.

He said government’s greatest concern was to ensure school environments were safe for academic activities.

He said: “We are looking at using locally-made disinfectant booths to check spread of the virus. My concern is to make sure that our students are safe. When we reopen, we would require all schools to provide hand washing facilities and maintain social distancing, although that would be difficult with children. We want teachers to always wear face masks and PPEs.

Government is already broadcasting through the Ministry of Information. We told school owners and institutions they must make sure these strategies are in place. Government alone cannot enforce social distancing, a lot depends on the citizenry…”
