Federal Government to rake N1.1m daily from Yobe farm estate

The Federal Government says about N1.1 million would be generated daily from the 30,000-bird integrated farm estate in Yobe State.

The poultry farm estate, sitting on a 20ha land in Gusamu community of Jakusko Local Council, will also generate N8.160 million monthly from sale of day-old chicks.

Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, while commissioning the project, over the weekend, commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Agricultural Land Development Authority ((NALDA) for placing Gusamu community on the world map and creating jobs for youths in the community.
“I believe that very soon, we will see an increase in the number of poultry farms in this particular zone. This is one of the immediate benefits, and I urge our people not to lose this opportunity.

“I appeal to NALDA that we want the capacity to grow beyond 250,000 chicks yearly, because I assure you that our people will patronise this; they will exhaust the 250,000 chicks and they will need more,” he said.

The Guardian gathered that 30 youths would be engaged to manage the farm.

At the commissioning, the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Paul Ikonne, disclosed that the 30 youths would manage the birds in a one person for 1,000 birds arrangement.

According to him Buhari had mandated NALDA to make agriculture attractive, for the youth to produce what we eat and for Nigerians to eat what we produce.

He explained: “This centre is like a reproduction centre that will be producing our locally-improved birds that will be distributed across the country to encourage our local breeds and maintain our old stocks.”

According to Ikonne, the farm has the capacity of generating 850 crates of egg daily and eggs will also be incubated to produce day-old chicks, adding that the centre will produce the parent stock, which will lay eggs for the production of day-old broilers for sale, with the production capacity of 250,000 yearly.
