The Federal Government has assured the House of Representatives of its resolve to ensure adequate funding of major federal roads across the country, including the Gombe-Biu in Borno State.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Hassan Musa, gave the assurance in Abuja, yesterday, while addressing the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Mauktar Betara, who was accompanied by Ahmadu Jaha and Kabir Tukura on a working visit to the ministry.

He said the ministry had secured new funding for the Gombe-Biu road, assuring the lawmakers that Federal Executive Council (FEC) would approve the road alongside others across the country.

He said: “On behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the Minister, Babatunde Fashola, I confirm that we are creating a new funding for that road, and the contractor will be given all necessary enablement to deliver on that project.

“But we are waiting for the rains to abate. Hopefully, as the rains are abating now, we intend to engage all our contractors to work assiduously, more so that we now have a sustainable funding window which would give them the opportunity to be paid immediately their jobs are certified,” Musa stressed.
