• Retains 25% reduction in political office holders’ salaries

Ekiti State Government, yesterday, said it had restored payment of consequential adjustment of the minimum wage for officers on Grade Level 7-8, which was hitherto suspended due to shortfall in revenue from Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The government also said that the restoration of consequential adjustment of the minimum wage of officers on Grade Level 9-12 would be implemented in September 2021.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Mr. Akin Omole, said that the decision to restore the minimum wage was reached at the August edition of the economy review committee meeting on Tuesday.

Omole added that the payment of 100 per cent subvention to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital had been restored, while subvention to Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), had increased from 50 per cent to 60 per cent and would be reviewed upwards in September 2021.”

The commissioner, however, said that the 25 per cent reduction in the salary of all political office holders, including permanent secretaries and executive secretaries would still be in place.

“The state government commends the labour leaders for their sacrifice and understanding, and the good people of Ekiti State for their co-operation with government to navigate through this period of financial challenges.

“The welfare of workers in Ekiti State remains our priority, and the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi has no plan to downsize the workforce or retrench any worker as a result of financial challenges facing the state,” he said.
