Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has been commended for mobilising indigenous residents abroad and providing the enabling environment for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Enugu State Diaspora Community during its outreach programme in schools across the three senatorial districts to commemorate the National Diaspora Day Celebration, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Mrs. Olangwa Ezekwu, expressed the Diasporans’ delight towards the governor’s support to them as well as his untiring efforts in attracting FDI to the state.

Ezekwu disclosed that the Enugu Diaspora Community, during the three-day National Diaspora Day Outreach Programme targeted at nursery and primary school pupils, distributed anti-malarial and deworming medication, mosquito nets, school bags, writing materials, face masks and hand sanitisers, among others.

They also sensitised the pupils on COVID-19 and its prevention.

“We will continue to reach the remaining local councils that we were not able to visit. We thank our Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for all the support his administration has been giving to the Diaspora Community.

Ezekwu, who was a guest speaker at the National Diaspora Day Webinar in Abuja yesterday, themed ‘Diaspora Integration for National Peace and Development’, disclosed that the topic was apt, timely and in consonance with the peace and development initiatives of Ugwuanyi’s administration.

The event was graced by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Zubairu Dada; Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Tolulope Akande-Sadipe; and Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, among others. The Director-General, World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, participated virtually.

Interventions by the Diaspora Office in Enugu include ICT equipment to the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu; relief materials to displaced people in Ukpabi-Nimbo community, Uzo Uwani Local Council, agricultural machinery and educational materials.
“This office, in partnership with Soroptimist International, donated medical equipment worth over N50 million to Enugu State Government for enhanced healthcare delivery. We have carried out a comprehensive medical mission in all 17 local councils of the state,” she added.
