Founder/Presiding Bishop of The Radiant Church, Bishop Emma Omon, has urged the Federal Government to emphasise infrastructure development and jettison policies that encourage multiple taxation to engender economic prosperity in the country.
The cleric spoke in Lagos ahead of the church’s Kingdom Convention tagged ‘Empowered 2.0’ to celebrate the dominion of Jesus Christ. The event is billed for October 30 and 31, 2021.
According to him, for the country to remain indivisible, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari must address genuine agitations and equal representation in his government, carrying those who harbour the feeling of neglect against the present administration along.
“I believe there is future for this nation. But in the face of these agitations, government must not try to suppress the people’s voices,” he advised. “When you try to suppress voices of dissent, it gets louder and stronger. You can use force for some years; but at some point, the agitation will become too much to handle.”
He disclosed that the unpopular economic policies of the government, which snowballed into unstable exchange rate, had been the impediment against economic growth.
The rate at which people are falling into depression as a result of the country’s economic situation is alarming, he said. “It is expedient for the churches as institutions to reduce the rate to the barest minimum through workshops and conventions.”
He noted that the purpose of the convention was to equip and influence people positively in the face of contending challenges in the country.
For Nigeria to meet up with the comity of nations in terms of development, the issue of unemployment must also be given special consideration with vocational centres adequately funded by government to allow young minds to develop and contribute their quota to nation building.
