The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on governments at all levels to bring to an end the ongoing bloodlettings in the southern part of Taraba State.

Reacting to the recent gruesome killing of a clergyman, Emmanuel Saba Beliya and his pregnant wife, Julian, by militia, CAN leadership said government must urgently fashion out ways to end the crisis.

Led by its National Vice President/National President of the Christian Reformed Church-Nigeria (CRC-N), Rev. Celeb O.S Ashima, the body told government to “rise and take all necessary measures to bring to an end all these bloodlettings.”

Briefing journalists, yesterday, at the church’s national headquarters in Takum Local Council on the ongoing killings between Tiv and Jukun ethnic groups, Ashima said the upheaval would have negative effects on everyone, especially farmers.

He said: “The crisis is degenerating into bloodletting and destruction of personal property. The government should wade in by calling youths to lay down their arms.

“The church condemns violence and bloodlettings. It is sad that at the time Nigerians are struggling with COVID-19, we have these bloodlettings going on here.”

He admonished all responsible and peace-loving Nigerians to rise up and condemn the crisis, and that government must use all apparatus within its powers to stop the killings.
