The Presidency, yesterday, refuted reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved a N30,000 relief fund to be given to every Nigerian with verified Bank Verification Number (BVN) in the wake of government’s directive for citizens to stay at home.

The reports had quoted his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina as saying, “The N30,000 relief fund will be given to every Nigerian with verified BVN account. I am sure the fund will go a long way to help Nigerians stock up their home during the stay-at- home order by the government.”

But reacting via his twitter handle @FemAdesina, the Presidential Spokesman described the report as “fake news” and should be discountenanced by Nigerians.

Adesina said the reports emanated from the confines of “fake news peddlers.”

In the tweet at 2:45pm, he said: “Fake news peddlers have concocted a statement, purportedly issued by me, saying “FG will pay N30,000 to each Nigerian with BVN, to help them stock up before an impending national lockdown. Not me. The so-called statement is hereby disclaimed.”
