Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu Mourns Victims Of Sept 13 Nigerian Military Siege

Nigerian Biafra political activist, and leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu on Sunday remembered those affected by the September 13, 2017, military siege on his Afaraukwu country-home.

Soldiers laid siege and clashed with members of Kanu’s group leading to the alleged death of 15 persons – although, the self-exiled pro-Biafra leader put the number of deaths at 28.

A report on a credible Nigerian newspaper said at the time that the soldiers arrived in the community ‘barely 48 hours after the clash between them and IPOB members on a weekend evening’.

The return of the soldiers with about 10 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and seven Hilux vans caused panic in the area, forcing shop owners to close immediately.

Operation Python Dance II, which the Nigerian army said was going to ‘address rampancy of assassinations, attack on security personnel, and theft of weapons, violent agitations, armed banditry and kidnapping’ just launched at that time.

As seen below, Mazi Kanu vowed that the blood of those who died on this day in 2017 “will not be in vain”.

On this day in 2017, men died in my compound in Umuahia & at Isiala Ngwa. 28 brave men died in defense of freedom, in defense of #Biafra. With them, my precious niece. I mourn you today as I mourn you always. The #IPOB mourns you; Biafra mourns you; your blood will not be in vain pic.twitter.com/YmtCdjKJlL
