Bandits Invade Kebbi School, Abduct Female Students

Suspected bandits have invaded the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State, and abducted a yet-to-be-specified number of female students.

Afriupdate News learnt that the details of the incident are still sketchy but there are reports that a security operative was shot dead during the operation.

The attackers, who rode on motorcycles, were said to have stormed the school from the neighbouring Rijau forest in the early hours of Thursday.

They were said to have overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school.

Gunmen kidnap five students in Nigeria

The state’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Nafiu Abubakar was unable to take his calls and could not respond to text messages forwarded to him at the time of filing this report.

Kidnapping students from their school has become rampant recently. On June 10, two lecturers and eight students were abducted by bandits at the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria. On April 29, four students of Capro Mission Secondary School located at Gana Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State were abducted. Few days before then, An unconfirmed number of students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, were kidnapped at gunpoint “by unknown persons”.

This follows barely a week after about 20 students were abducted from Greenfield University in Kaduna. more than 300 persons have been reported kidnaped from their schools in the last six months.
