Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, approved the request of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to revise the 2021 Appropriation Law.
Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, Gbolahan Yishawu, who read the various sectoral allocations on the floor during plenary, announced the new appropriation law as N1.25 trillion.

According to Yishawu, N513.3 billion was approved for recurrent expenditure from the Consolidated Revenue Fund, while N743.2 billion from the Development Fund was approved for capital expenditure, both for the year ended December 31, 2021.

Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, subsequently read out the recommendations of the committee on the floor of the House and was approved through voice-votes by the lawmakers.
He then ordered the Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, to pass a clean copy of the report to the governor for assent.

The Speaker said the governor was requesting the House to authorise the reordering of N460.58 billion to N496.26 billion for the recurrent expenditure; and N702.93 billion to N759.59 billion for the capital expenditure.

Meanwhile, the lawmakers have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in the protection of shorelines of Eti-Osa, Lagos Island, Ibeju-Lekki, Badagry and others in the state. They also asked the Federal Government to release the ecological funds to the state.
The legislators also urged Sanwo-Olu to direct the relevant ministry to come up with modalities to address the shoreline issues.

IN another development, Osun State Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, yesterday, presented N129.75 billion to the state House of Assembly as the draft budget for 2022.

Details of the appropriation bill revealed that the larger chunks were earmarked for infrastructure, education and health sectors, with the agriculture sector getting a big share of the appropriation.

In the draft budget, christened “Budget of Sustainable Development,” the recurrent expenditure was N53.59 billion, representing 41.30 per cent, while the capital expenditure was N76.16 billion, representing 58.70 per cent.

The appropriation bill revealed that N26.6 billion went to education; over N19 billion to the infrastructure sector; about N16 billion to the health sector and about N7 billion to the agriculture sector.

Oyetola said the budget was aimed at further cementing and pursuing the policy thrust of the administration and consolidating various achievements so far recorded in each sector of the economy of the state.
Oyetola said that in view of the prevailing economic realities, the main focus of the budget would be the aggressive improvement of the internally generated revenue drive to ensure optimum performance in the coming years.

He added that workable strategies had been put in place to boost the revenue of the state without putting an unnecessary burden on the residents.

The governor also disclosed that all the general hospitals across the state would be rehabilitated, just as he hinted that government would embark on massive construction of more roads in 2022.
