Sixteen students have bagged first-class grades at the Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Edo State.

Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lawrence Igbinedion, who disclosed this yesterday, during the 18th Convocation ceremony of the premier private university, said the institution has continued to blaze the trail in academic excellence and has so far, recorded major breakthroughs in almost all sectors of life.

Addressing the graduates during the convocation ceremony, held at the institution’s campus and virtually via zoom, the Vice-Chancellor said 618 students graduated, comprising 553 undergraduates and 65 postgraduates.

Ezemonye, who noted that the institution has equally made unquantifiable contributions to national development, said it has graduated over 15,000 students since inception in 1999.

Expressing the hope of becoming a globally competitive academic institution, the Vice-Chancellor said the University had embarked on innovative solutions through online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic and has full accreditation status of its programme from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

Ezemonye attributed the institution’s success in its 21 years of existence to the unwavering support from its founder and Chancellor, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, whose vision has kept the institution globally competitive and breaking grounds in many disciplines and fields.
