The Federal Government has commended the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, for his administration’s sustained investments in the state’s education sector.
It noted that the government’s intervention in the sector was responsible for the success of the Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme in the state.
A Federal Government delegation led by Education Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Bappa-Aliyu Muhammadu, gave the commendation during the inspection of ongoing construction work at the Tayo Apkata University of Education, Ekiadolor, which is the site for the new Federal College of Education.
The inspection was to ascertain the level of preparedness of the institution ahead of proposed commencement of academic activities in October 2020.
Governor Obaseki had visited the institution in May, reassuring that the Federal Government delegation would visit the state to inspect the level of work at the college.
The conversion of the university to a Federal College of Education was a fall out of Obaseki’s meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the siting of one of the Federal colleges of education in the six geo-political zones in Edo.
Speaking shortly after the inspection, Muhammadu expressed satisfaction over the level of work on the projects, adding that it was an indication of the state government’s readiness to hand over the institution to the Federal Government at the stipulated time.
“We are here to see the facilities for the commencement of the new Federal College of Education. We can see that most of the structures are already here. President Buhari promised that the institution will commence this October,” he said.
Speaking, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Jimoh Jegbai, who represented Governor Obaseki, commended President Buhari for making Edo State one of the beneficiaries of a Federal College of Education.
On his part, an employee of the institution, Kenneth Omoruyi, commended the Federal and state governments for making their dream a reality and assured the delegation of their support in ensuring that the institution thrived.
