Mazi Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said members of his outlawed group will join the ongoing #EndSARS protests “next week Monday”, Afriupdate reports.
Mazi Kanu, who leads the banned group canvassing for the secession and sovereignty of Eastern Nigeria, made this known during his routine online broadcast on Monday.
“Next week, I will bring out IPOB on the streets of the entire Nigeria. Then, they will see what protest is,” Controversial Kanu said while chuckling.
“Britain will be working overtime now – Let us stop them before they join.
“I am giving you advance notice.
“We are coming next week Monday to join the protests.”
Afriupdate recalls that the street protests in Nigeria started about two weeks ago to demand an end to police brutality, with mainly young people using the social media hashtag #EndSARS to rally people to demand the closure of the controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
SARS, formed during military rule in 1984, was accused of extortion, torture and murder.
The protests have also been backed by global celebrities such as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey, US rapper Kanye West, footballers Marcus Rashford, Mesut Ozil and Tammy Abraham as well as Nigerian superstars, Tiwa Savage, Davido and Wizkid.

The government agreed to disband SARS, but protests have since snowballed into calls for wider reforms with protesters now also using the hashtags #EndBadGovernance, #BetterNigeria and #FixNigeriaNow to build support on social media.
